October 4 Devotional

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work” (II Corinthians 9:8).  God is able … God is able to do anything He wants with whoever He wants.  According to this wonderful verse, one of the things God wants to do for you is extend His grace.  He wants to do more than simply extend His grace to you, He wants to make that grace abound!  This means that His grace goes above measure and is what is left over, it is grace to abundance!  God knows we need grace, but He has promised to give grace that will fill up your situation, and that will run over the edges all around your life.

For many of us, we fall into the trap of just crossing our fingers and hoping we make it through this day we are living through.  I want to say that any Christian that has that as a way of thinking is involved in “stinking thinking!”  We have a God Who is able to do far beyond what our imaginations can come up with.  How is that we look so much more to the things that surround us, than to look to His ability to far surpass our expectations?  Trust God for His “abounding grace” today.  How can we do this in our lives today?  How can we turn our back on our weak thinking and our anemic faith and bolster ourselves with the fact that God wants to give us grace that will abound today?

As always, we need to return to the Word of God for our answer.  Yesterday I read the familiar verse that challenges us to turn our back on our own way of thinking … on our own understanding, and to turn in absolute faith and trust in His ability to work on my behalf.  If we are honest with ourselves, we often venture into the area that God is responsible for, and try to direct our own paths.  We often pray … telling God what He should do, rather than humbly falling before Him, totally yielding our will to His will inviting Him to do all that He has planned for us.  It is far easier to think that our opinions are better than anyone else’s … including God’s.

That sounds absurd if you would say it out loud … and that would be because it is absurd!  God is sufficient for anything you are going to face today!  God’s grace will be more than sufficient for what it is you are facing today!  Rather than striving, and working, and sweating, and worrying about what is in front of you, why not simply fall into the loving arms of your Heavenly Father today?  Trust His grace to be abounding in your life today!  He is all you will need!
