“I acknowledged my sin unto Thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD;’ and Thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto Thee in a time when Thou mayest be found: Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him. Thou art my hiding place; Thou shalt preserve me from trouble; Thou shalt compass me about with the songs of deliverance. Selah” (Psalm 32:5-7).
Forgiveness is one of the sweetest things in all the world to a person who has been guilty of hurting someone else. I know for myself, every time I approached a person to ask for forgiveness, it was with the fear that they would refuse, and I would live with the fact that I had failed, and that I did not deserve forgiveness. When I sin against God (and I do not care how spiritual you are, or think you are … we all do this on a regular basis), I know that I have failed the one Person Who is absolutely without sin themselves. I think that one of the things that will help all of us to forgive someone else is the fact that we too need forgiveness. We are much quicker to forgive if we can keep a proper focus on our own sinfulness. But, God is perfect … He of all we might ask forgiveness from could refuse.
That sixth verse really touches my heart. It clearly says that “… every one that is godly …” prays to ask for forgiveness. We all need to be forgiven; even “godly” people. Perhaps there are some things you have been holding onto, thinking that God could never forgive … He can and He will. Carrying unconfessed sin around with you is a sure way to live a defeated Christian life. Lay aside your pride and honestly confess that sin to God. He will remove that burden from you and give you another chance to walk with Him. He is still in a place where you can find Him. He is still willing to forgive all that come to Him in genuine repentance.
If you are looking for a place to “hide” from your sin; God is the only “hiding place” I know of where you will find peace for your soul. He is the only One Who can then protect you from repeating that same sin. He knows we are like dirt, and that we will constantly fail left to ourselves. He is the One Who recognizes true repentance and will then keep us safe in Him as we remain close to Him. He is the One Who will surround you with “songs of deliverance.” Trust Him … run to Him … don’t avoid confessing and forsaking your sin. He is the One Who can take care of you and give you the peace and happiness you are craving today.
