March 29 Devotional

What a horrible thought, to be forsaken by God … but that is exactly what Jesus Christ, the Son of God, did for you.  From the cross, Jesus cried out, “’Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is to say, ‘My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me’” (Matthew 27:46)?  For the first time in the history of eternity past, God the Father turned His face from God the Son.  There is no way we can fully comprehend this with our finite minds.  The price-tag for your sin and my sin was Jesus Christ becoming sin for us.  When someone tells you that you can get to Heaven by being a good person, remember this verse!  When someone tells you that by receiving communion, and confessing your sins to another person in a phone booth your sins can be forgiven, remember this verse!  When someone tells you that joining their church or getting baptized can forgive your sins, remember this verse!  The price of our sin … your sin, was far greater than some “man-made religion.”  The price for your sin and mine was that the totally innocent, spotless, pure, righteous, perfect Son of Almighty God had to become filthy and detestable to God so much that He could not even look on that sin … and turned His face from Jesus.  That is what God thinks of your sin today.  Don’t you look away from this verse … God hates sin!  There is no politically correct way to tell you this … God cannot even look on your sin.  When Jesus cried out these words it gave us the opportunity to see inside the heart of our God.  God could not even look at His own Son with our sins on Him, at the time Jesus needed Him the most.  Let me ask you this question: If God could not look on Jesus with sin placed on Him, what makes you think that you will be able to take ONE SIN into Heaven with all your good works; church membership; baptismal certificate; record of giving to the church; religion?  You and I both know the answer to that question.  There is no way for you to enter Heaven … unless you have the key to the gate of Heaven.  Jesus Christ died that day some 2,000 years ago to offer you a key to open the gates of Heaven to you.  The key is His own blood.  You see, the cost of your sin is death … Christ died there on Calvary FOR you … you must now receive Him to be able to enter Heaven with your sins forgiven.  Jesus was the perfect payment for you sins, and the ONLY payment God will accept. Please take a moment right now to ask God for Jesus to become your payment for sin.  Tell God that you know Jesus is the only way to Heaven and you will trust His death, burial and resurrection as payment for your sin.  I will tell you now, God is hoping you will trust His way to Heaven.  If you are saved you ought to thank God for Jesus again and again and again …
