March 16 Devotional

There are problems that you are facing today that make you wonder if you will be okay in the future.  There are situations taking place all around you in the world that might cause you to lose some sleep at night.  When you hear all about the wars that are happening, and about the wars that might happen, you have reason for worry … but, do you really?  We have a God Who spoke this world and its universe into existence in six, twenty-four hour days!  He is able to stand up for you too, if you will allow Him.  We need to be careful as Christians to realize that when we worry, we are simply telling the world that our God is NOT enough.  When we trust Him, and demonstrate that trust, we are telling the world that our God IS enough.

Ezra thought about this very thing himself when re-building the temple.  Look at what he said: “For I was ashamed to require of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way: because we had spoken unto the king, saying, ‘The hand of our God is upon all them for good that seek Him; but His power and His wrath is against all them that forsake Him.’  So we fasted and besought our God for this: and He was entreated of us” (Ezra 8:22-23).  Did you catch it?  Ezra said that he could have asked the king for help.  The king had offered help, and even ordered that any funds they needed for the repairs should be given to them.  He had a “blank check” from the most powerful man in the area.  As Ezra thought about asking for help, he knew there would be damage the testimony of God and the Jews who claimed to trust Him.

Ezra made a decision that we need to make today as well.  Ezra decided to trust God and prove His power to supply the things they would need.  Are you willing to trust God today?  In the face of the economy, will you trust God?  In the face of the troubles our world is in, will you trust God?  Regardless of what the doctor tells you during your visit, will you trust God?  For the protection and care of your children, will you trust God?  For wisdom for what you should do and where you should go in the future, will you trust God?  Remember, there are people watching the way you are living to decide if you really believe in God, or if it is just some “thing” you put on once-in-awhile.  If you will trust God like Ezra did, and put God to the test, God will take care of you, just like He did the children of Israel back then.  God IS enough … live in a way that shows others you trust Him!

God’s part is to put forth power.  Our part is to put forth faith.” – Andrew A. Bonar
