June 29 Devotional

You don’t need to go very far to find trouble and challenges.  Everywhere we turn in our world today, there appears to be an abundance of issues we are facing that challenge our faith.  Abortions are still taking place; famine exists in many parts of the world; we are still seeing earthquakes, tsunami’s, tornado’s, and other natural disasters.  If we are totally honest with ourselves, even though these things exist, they do not affect us every day.  However, there are problems that you will face today that you understand fully you will need the help of God to face and conquer.

Just before beginning to read my Bible this morning, I told the Lord that I had some challenges today that I know I need His help to be successful.  I also reminded myself that I need Him every day, in every situation all throughout the day.  After praying that, I opened my Bible and read this verse about God standing for Israel: “God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early” (Psalm 46:5).  What a comfort to know that when Jesus returned to Heaven to be seated at the right hand of God, that He sent a Comforter to help us.  I realize that as I begin this new day today, the Holy Spirit is within me, ready to help, comfort, guide, convict, and generally defeat the Devil and my flesh … as I yield to Him.

As I yield to Him … did you catch that?  God is absolutely ready and able to do His part today.  That is not a question.  The psalmist stated so clearly that God is able to help, and He will do it early.  The area of concern for me is in that “yielding” department of my life.  You see, I (possibly you too) prefer the driver’s seat of my life rather than the passenger’s seat.  Ever since I got my driver’s license, I have enjoyed the steering wheel in my hand.  However, when the storms of life are pressing against me, the best move I can make is to turn the controls of my life over to the Holy Spirit Who dwells within me, and let Him determine the course we will go.

Honestly, in the beginning of that trip, I don’t always like where He is taking me … but I know that He knows the way!  I don’t need to have all the answers to the questions of life … I just need to make sure the Holy Spirit of God is driving my life … and not me!  He knows the way I should take … He is all-knowing … He is all-powerful …. I am none of those things.  Join me in yielding your life to His control and then enjoy the ride!
