June 12 Devotional

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.  My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand” (John 10:27-29).

There is an insurance company whose slogan is “You’re in good hands …”  When I read these verses, I realize that I have absolute security in the hands of Jesus … but doubly secure then wrapped also in the hands of God.  There are many different religions that teach that a person cannot know that they are going to Heaven.  One of these religions teaches that when a loved one or family member of yours has died, that you can pray them out of Hell and into Heaven.  They say that it will also help if you buy a special card from the church so the leadership of the church will pray along with you.

I have talked with many people who believe that there are certain sins that will cause you to lose the forgiveness Jesus has given you and that you will need to be saved all over again.  I have asked these people exactly what these are, and where they found that in the Bible.  It’s funny, but they have not been able to show me to this point.  One of the people that I read these verses to who doubted about being saved eternally told me that this verse does not say that they (themselves) would not be able to jump out of God’s hand.  I’m sorry … I laughed at them.

Jesus promised “everlasting life;” and “eternal life” in His time here on the earth.  I want to challenge each of you reading this today to trust God and Him alone for your security in salvation.  Human reasoning would tell you that there is no way you could “stay” forgiven after you sin knowingly.  Human reasoning cannot understand or figure out the mind of our God.  Part of our problem in understanding this, is our inability to fully grasp the depth of the grace and mercy of God!  There is no way my finite mind can find the capacity to understand why God would send His “only-begotten Son” to die in my place!  I cannot understand that … but I fully accept it, and depend upon it.

I will tell you that the Devil does not want you to have confidence in the Word of God.  He wants you to believe that you are in danger of losing your salvation.  Trust God’s Word and thank Him for saving you FOREVER!
