When Paul was being transported to Rome to be imprisoned, the ship he was sailing in was about to be destroyed because of a storm. In the middle of the storm, “Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day” (Acts 27:29). You and I may be facing a storm right now, or will be at some time in our lives. What will we do in the times of storm? Here are four anchors from the book of Jude that you can use to hold onto the Rock of Jesus Christ.
“But ye, beloved, ① building up yourselves on your most holy faith, ② praying in the Holy Ghost, ③ keep yourselves in the love of God, ④ looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life” (Jude 20-21). Here are four anchors that will hold you today and for the future.
① Building up your faith – Spend some time today asking God to increase your faith. Faith is one of those things that God wants us to have that we cannot produce on our own. Since you cannot produce it today and you see it as an anchor of your faith, stop and ask God to give it to you today. What a great anchor to have today … faith!
② Praying in the Holy Ghost – One of the ways to stay anchored in our God is to spend time alone with Him in prayer. I believe all of us could improve in the area of fervent prayer. Take the time today to spend some quality time alone with your God. Confess known sin; thank God for what He has done and what He is doing; ask Him for the things you need. What a great anchor to have today … prayer!
③Keep yourselves in the love of God – The love of God is that love that is demonstrated to those who are unlovely. It is the love that offers forgiveness that has not been earned. It is a love that is willing to give up your life for the good of another. It is the love that was demonstrated on the cross of Calvary. If you are not showing this love, you need to ask God to help you live this kind of life before the world. This kind of love will be an anchor in the middle of the storms of life. What a great anchor to have today … love!
④ Looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ – Look for mercy from Jesus that you might pass it along to others in need. There will be many people around you today that are in need of mercy. Don’t shy away from them … offer them the mercy you have freely received. What a great anchor to have today … mercy!
