August 1 Devotional

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of His roots: And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD” (Isaiah 11:1-2).  These verses are words of prophecy of Jesus Christ coming to be the Savior of the world.  This is the man that every sinner has looked for since the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden.  This is the man Who would completely fulfill the Ten Commandments that were etched on the tablets of stone in the presence of Moses.  This is the man of Whom all the prophets wrote that would bring salvation in His wings!  This is the man God knew would bring redemption and forgiveness by His perfect sacrifice for sin.

Look at the description of Jesus that Isaiah gave us:

He had the spirit of wisdom and understanding.  Jesus Christ knows every answer to every challenge you are facing today.  He is the One you should turn to for wisdom and understanding when you need it.  I am often asked about how to know the will of God.  The answer is found in knowing and getting to know Jesus Christ better.  Follow His example, and you will be following wisdom and understanding.

He had the spirit of counsel and might.  Jesus Christ was called the Counselor in Isaiah 9:6.  He is the One we ought to run to for advice on life decisions.  Before you buy that house, or car; before you take that new job; before you decide what you are going to do with your life; ask the greatest Counselor the world has ever known!  We make decisions every day that really affects our life.  Be careful not to make any decision before first asking Jesus Christ to give you wisdom and peace before going forward.

He had the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.  Jesus Christ had all the knowledge that the Word of God offers to us.  He knew His Bible and He depended on that wisdom for His life here on the earth.  He did nothing that was contrary to the Bible or its principles.  He also combined a healthy Fear of the Lord with that knowledge.  It is not enough for us to simply have spiritual intelligence, or knowledge; we must apply that knowledge to our lives as we fear God.  What a great Savior we have!  Honor Him by giving Him your life today.  I am talking about more than trusting Him for salvation.  Trust Him as lord of your life too!
