April 6 Devotional

One of my favorite stories in the Bible is about a woman who had been struggling with a continual flow of blood for twelve years.  She had spent all she had on doctors to try to cure her without a cure.  She had such solid faith in Jesus, that she made this statement“… If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be whole” (Mark 15:28).  She knew without a doubt that if she could simply touch the clothing of Jesus that her sickness of twelve years would be healed!  What incredible faith!

Do you have that kind of faith today?  We all struggle with things that have caused us pain and turmoil in our lives.  When we have a problem, we are all too willing to spend our money in an effort to try to “fix” those problems, often without any good results.  We get advice from other people and even complete strangers, when all we really need to do is to get in touch with Jesus Christ.  For the remainder of this devotional I would like you to consider some ways to touch Jesus Christ.

Obviously we can see Who Jesus really is on the pages of our Bible.  It is in this wonderful book that we can see what Jesus did; who He touched; what touched Him; and what He provided for us.  When I want to touch Jesus, I run to the Word of God.  When I get to it, I ask God to help me get into the Word of God, and for it (the Bible) to get into me.  I realize that the more I apply my life to the principles of the Bible, the more I will act, think and live like Jesus Christ.  Apart from the Bible, I have no hope of ever knowing what Jesus is like … no hope of living a life that is pleasing to Him.

Another way I can touch Jesus Christ today is through prayer.  This has always been a very convicting area of my spiritual life.  I can get so busy in “doing things” that I have a hard time slowing down to just talk with my Heavenly Father.  When I take the time to speak with my God, I must do it through Jesus Christ.  When I have sin in my life, I must go through my Advocate, Jesus Christ.  When I have a need that is beyond my abilities, I trust Jesus Christ to prop me up and provide all that I will need.  These times of prayer, are some of the most intimate times I have ever had with God.  It is during these times of prayer that I feel that I get to know my Savior even more.  Don’t continue struggling through your problems alone … touch the hem of His garment today through reading the Word of God and in prayer.  You will see remarkable results!

If you don’t have enough faith, then borrow some from someone else.” – Unknown
